..."Who'd buy a cake from me?"
That was what I use to say when my husband told me, I should start selling my cakes.
I'm a wife of a teacher, mother of two amazing children (Audrey & Jonas), eldest of three sisters and a pharmacist with a passion for cake decorating! We moved to the beautiful Blue Mountains for a "tree" change but I ended up with a "career" change.
I've always been a creative person, a perfectionist and an avid crafter (yes, I also love to sew, quilt, embroider and paint among other things!) I'm not a very good cook but I love to bake...I love the science behind the baking but mostly... I love to decorate cakes! I find inspiration in beautiful fabrics, embroideries, wallpaper and flowers... especially from my garden (English Roses, Peonies and Magnolias are just some of my favourites). Cake decorating allows me to incorporate all those things I love and creatively interpret them through cakes!
I've been a self taught cake artist since 2004 but it wasn't until 2010, while on maternity leave with my second child, that Cake Avenue began.
It was the creation of my children's birthday cakes that made me realise how much I truly loved cake decorating. It was also then, that I realised how very important the cake was...it would mark every milestone in my children's lives, from their Birthdays and Christening, to their Wedding and Anniversary! It didn't matter how big or small the event was, when they look back and reflect on each celebration, they'll always remember their cake!
Although I still love helping all my patients at the chemist, Cake Avenue is where my heart is...it's where I'm meant to be. I'm so blessed to love what I do but what really makes my efforts worthwhile, is the amazing reaction I get, when my daughter or client sees a cake I've made and it's exceeded their expectations! It makes me beam with pride every single time!
So with my husband's ever constant faith in my abilities (even when I had none) and my two sisters' encouragement (push) and help, we took a huge leap and Cake Avenue was born. Our magical cake journey has only just begun! I hope you'll come along, be inspired and let me make you beam...
